Green Leaf, the Potawatomi Boy by Lisa J. Lickel, illustrated by Brenda Hendricks

Today I read a book by Mama’s friend. It is about a boy named Green Leaf. I think that is a very fun name. When I find leaves, I bury myself in them. This is me all buried.

Green Leaf doesn’t have any friends. I have lots of friends, but I think I love my choo-choo’s best. Because choo-choo’s go “round and round” and make beeping noises. My friends don’t make beeping noises and sometimes they takes my choo-choos.

Green Leaf meets a Luxembourger boy named Henri. I’m not sure what Luxembourger means, but Mama says Luxembourger people speak German. Green Leaf tries to learn so many German words, but it is very difficult. Then when Henri gets in danger, Green Leaf needs to try so hard to remember all the words to save him.
When I don’t remember words, I just scream very loud and kick my feet. It works well.
